The progress in science, technology and industry is due both to the development of new advanced technological processes and creation of the devices for their practical realization. User-end properties of each device are characterized by the three following parameters: mass, dimensions and power consumption. These parameters should be minimized, whereas the functional parameters should be increased. Application of permanent magnets allows to solve this problem for many applications in electrical engineering, electronics, telecommunication and other fields. The higher is the specific energy, time and temperature stability of the permanent magnets, the greater is the effect of mass, dimension, and power consumption reduction. Essential optimization is also possible due to the customization of magnet geometry.

Periodic magnetic systems of the microwave devices, gyroscopes, electric motors, non-contact bearings and couplings, loud-speakers, tomographs, mass- and NMR-spectrometers are among the applications of permanent magnets. This list is by far not completed. Materials based on the alloys of rare-earth metals with iron and cobalt have a special place among the multitude of compounds used for permanent magnets. Such alloys have the best characteristic compared to the other known materials. Therefore the magnets based on rare-earth and transition metals alloys draw a lot of attention in research, production and consumer sectors. They find still more and more applications in technology.

A great progress has been made over the past decades in development and production of such permanent magnets. The value of the maximum energy product for the Nd-Fe-B magnets is (ÂÍ)max = 50 MGaussOersted, which exceeds by a factor of four the value for the best Al-Ni-Co magnets.

Research and production Company MMT was created to provide the most advanced high-energy permanent magnets based on the Nd-Fe-B alloys for the consumer market. Therefore the structure of the Company was planned as a small-scale production complex capable of efficiently supplying the Customers with permanent magnets.

However, in the course of the reforms in the industry we found almost no demand on the magnets as such. Customers did not need magnets, but the magnetic fields produced by permanent magnets. Even this is not quite the case. The customers rather need the magnetic fields produced by magnetic elements and magnetic systems which have the following constituents: permanent magnets, soft magnetic parts that facilitate concentration and configuration of the magnetic flow in the operation region, and also non-magnetic construction elements made of metallic and non-metallic compounds.

According to this demand, the new structure of the Company emerged, quite different from the one initially planned. Research and production Company MMT (RPC) can now completely rely on its own resources both in research and development, and in the production cycle. RPC MMT has the following departments: Chief designer service (Design department and the Computational support group), Department for the development of advanced processes and equipment with permanent magnets, Production department for sintered permanent magnets production in vacuum, Assembly department for the production of magnetic systems, and the Quality control group.

Since we started to offer complete magnetic systems, only 10-12% of our Customers purchase the magnets. The majority prefers to obtain "custom-made magnetic fields" to fix metallic components in place, focus and transport electron plasma beams, separate magnetic admixtures, rotate the spindles of electric machines, process liquids, take the load off the rotation bearings, transfer rotational or translational motion into closed volumes, and to decelerate vehicles.

The products made by the MMT Company are widely used in:

  • electronics (magnetic focusing systems of clystrons, traveling wave tubes and backward wave tubes, gyrotrons etc.),
  • oil and gas industry (electric motors and hermetic couplings for submersible pumps, dewaxing units, magnetic barrage and overshots, elements of diagnostic complexes)
  • heat and power engineering (magnetic systems for water processing for reduction of scale formation),
  • motor-car industry (magnetic filters, microelectromotors, sensors, electromechanical transducers, locking devices),
  • municipal economy (water meters, electricity meters, gas meters),
  • food industry (high-efficiency magnetic separators and barrages).

Over the past two years delivery of products for oil and gas industry drastically increased (rotors for the (electric motors of submersible pumps, magnetic separators and barrages, magnetic overshots etc.). The part of these products in the overall production became as high as 73,6%.

The main body of the MMT staff consists of the professionals with a solid background in the fields of research, development, and production. Most of them have acquired their experience at the leading entreprises of electronic and engineering industry: Federal state unitary enterprise «Toriy» (former R&D Institute «Titan»), Design office for special magnets, R&D and production Company «Pluton», R&D and production Company «Kompozit» (formerly «Energia»), Moscow factory for polymetallic compounds.

MMT has good traditions of long term cooperation with the researchers from the Departments of Physics and Chemistry of the M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Chair of magnetism of the Tver State University, Research laboratories of the Moscow Institute for Engineering and Construction, Departments of the General Physics Institute, Institute for Radio and Electronics, Institute for Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Science. This cooperation and our own practical experience over a quarter of a century allows the MMT Company to efficiently solve a wide range of most challenging research and development problems.

Technological production complex of MMT is equipped with automated and highly mechanized facilities both of Russian and Western make. This complex is capable of facing the challenges of highest quality wares production. Constant upgrade of the equipment allows to double the yield every year.

Research and production Company MMT is completely in private ownership.

According to the abovementioned considerations, we offer the following products and solutions:

  • complex solutions: calculation, optimization, production, and delivery of magnetic systems and elements according to the Customers' demands,
  • production and delivery of magnetic elements and systems for various applications,
  • and only in the third place - permanent magnets of the types neodymium-Iron-Boron and Samarium-Cobalt.
