MAGNETIC SYSTEMS OF
TRAVELING WAVE TUBES

Nd-Fe-B magnets of type MAEP30HSs
are applied in production of magnetic systems for traveling
wave tubes (TWT).
Our Company has developed two following types of such magnetic
systems: periodical magnetic focusing systems (see Figure)
and combined magnetic systems with alternating regions of
periodical and regular components of the magnetic field.

Since the general approach to development
of such magnetic systems based on Nd-Fe-B magnets has virtually
no differences compared to the development of systems based
on Sm-Co magnets, we shall not discuss it in detail here.
However, special attention should be paid to the temperature
operating conditions of the magnetic systems based on Nd-Fe-B
magnets.
In certain cases temperature compensator elements should be
included into the design of magnetic systems to ensure the
thermal stability of the device. This increases the production
cost of such periodical focusing magnetic systems.
